Abstract: | Foot rot (quick wilt) disease of black pepper (Piper nigrum L.) caused by Phytophthora capsici (P. palmivora MF4) is one of the major constraints in the production of black pepper in india. Although the fungus Phytophthora was isolated from black pepper as early as 1929 (Venkata Rao, 1929) in India, Phytophthora as the casual organism of black pepper wilt was reported only in 1966 (Samraj and Jose, 1966). Since then, it has been reviewed by Nambiar and Sarma (1977) and Sarma and Nambiar (1982). The epidemiological studies carried out so far in India have been reviewed in the present paper. |
