Abstract: The presence of Hydroxycitric acid (HCA) in the fruit rind and leaves of Garcinia has added the importance to the crop. Two months old fruits and the leaves of four species garcInia namely' G. gummi·gutta, G. indica, G•• tinctoria ~nd!l' cowa were colI~cte~ from germplas~ of IISR experimental farm Peruvanamuzhi. HCA was estimated using HPLC ~nd aCid -base titratIOn me~hod. Th~ titration method provided slightly more percentage of extraction as it gives the presence of total acids m the sample. P.ercenta~e dlrre~ence ~n I:ICA ~f the two methods vary between 0.09to 0.879 in leaves and 0.15 to 3.35 in case of fruits. Among the four specIes studied G. tmctona IS havmg very low HCA 0.013 % in leaves and 0.07"/ .. in fruits.
